Thai Keyboards: Historical Language Background

Keyboard labels have been carefully designed for the Thai language. Here's some background info on this alphabet.

Thai language belongs to the Thai-Kadai language group. Thai alphabet consists of 44 consonants, 28 vowel marks and 4 tonal symbols. Thai language is spoken by over 46 million people and is the official language of Thailand. The Thai script originates from the Old Khmer script but has its own writing system. There are known inscriptions in Thai dated 1292 CE. Thai characters have no capitalization.

The most common Thai keyboard layout in use is Thai Kedmanee, which is represented on this site. It was adopted first time by the Thai Industrial Standard Institute (TISI) in 1988 as a standard for computers.
