Portuguese Keyboards: Historical Language Background

Portuguese language is a member of Romance languages group, is widely spoken primarily in Portugal, Brazil, and colonial territories. It is one of world's major languages with total number of speakers exceeding 175 million. Standard Portuguese is derived from the dialect of Lisbon.
Portuguese keyboard layout has two different designs. Both are based on QWERTY: keyboards for Portugal, and keyboards for Brazil. Those layouts have a separate key for cedilla, and a "dead key" is defined for other diacritics. There is a slight variation in location of parenthesis and brackets between those two keyboard layouts.
